Republicans for Liberty: Why We Exist

Fellow Virginians and liberty-minded Republicans,

Today we launch Republicans for Liberty as a clear voice inside the Republican Party for those who still believe the party’s core purpose is defending individual liberty, limited government, free markets, and the Constitution—not managing decline or protecting the status quo.

We exist because the state Republican Party has repeatedly failed that mission.

For too long, the official apparatus has prioritized access, donor comfort, and “electability” over principle. It has tolerated or elevated candidates and leaders who expand government, defend corporate welfare, soften on Second Amendment rights, treat parental rights in education as negotiable, and treat fiscal restraint as optional rhetoric rather than non-negotiable policy. When the party platform and campaign literature speak of freedom, the governing record too often delivers more spending, more bureaucracy, and more accommodation of progressive priorities once the cameras are off.

This is not a failure of messaging. It is a failure of will and of institutional culture. Grassroots activists who show up, knock doors, and demand accountability are too frequently treated as inconvenient rather than essential. Primary challenges that would enforce platform fidelity are discouraged. Internal processes are engineered to protect incumbents and insiders rather than to produce the strongest liberty-oriented nominees. The result is a party that too often arrives in Richmond or Washington prepared to manage the administrative state rather than shrink it.

Republicans for Liberty rejects that approach. We are Republicans who refuse to outsource our principles to consultants or to the permanent political class. We believe:

  • Individual rights come before collective management.

  • Government that grows without limit eventually crowds out the very liberties it claims to protect.

  • The party exists to advance constitutional government, not to serve as a jobs program for professional politicians.

  • Accountability begins at home—inside the party—before it can be demanded of the other side.

We will support candidates, policies, and party reforms that actually restrain power. We will oppose those that merely rearrange it. We will organize, educate, and primary when necessary. We will not be silent when the state party apparatus chooses comfort over courage.

This is not a third party. It is a deliberate effort to make the Republican Party worthy of the name again—starting in Virginia.

If you are tired of the gap between the rhetoric of liberty and the reality of bigger government, you already belong here.

Join us. The work of restoring the party to its liberty-first roots begins now.

Republicans for Liberty

Liberty first. Always.
